Miist

Turkey

Milan-based Miist, the collective brain-child of product designer Alex Baser and interior architect Gulay Ozgun Ahmedova, create refined yet vibrant home décor that marries Scandinavian minimalism with Italian panache.

Baser was trained at the Scuola Politecnica di Design (SPD) and the Domus Academy prior to working with multidisciplinary firms like Continuum Innovation, Jozeph Forakis, and Frog Design. He went on to collaborate with produce designs for IKEA, Mont Blanc, and Samsung. Ahmedova, meanwhile, earned her B.A in Interior Architecture in Istanbul, where she attended both Dogus (2008-2009) and Isik (2009-2013). Afterward, she moved to Milan for post-graduate studies in Interior Design at the SPD. Ahmedova has also worked at a variety of architectural offices, including ABAD Architetti Milano, Yalin Tan & Partners, Sanayi313, and Caglayan Architects.

Despite it’s relative nascency—Miist was founded in 2018—the collective has swelled out an extensive range of designs, especially coffee and console tables, often making use of barely-there metal rod structures. All of Miist’s designs are realized by master craftsman in Istanbul. Standout projects to date include include their hexagonal SEI Coffee Table (2018); the free-standing Peak Mirror (2018); and the SO-NAIVE Console Table (2018).

Up-and-coming on the design scene, Miist has recently been selected to showcase at this year’s London Design Fair. To boot, their work has been featured in a number of worldwide lifestyle and design publications.
