Rolf Sachs

London, United Kingdom

Rolf Sachs was born in 1955 in Lausanne and was the son of Gunter Sachs, the famed German photographer, mathematician, and socialite descended from the Sachs-Opel industrial families. His first career was in investment banking, but, in the mid-1980s, he turned his talents toward exploring the tension between conceptual art and functional objects. He set up his multidisciplinary design studio in London in 1994.

Sachs collaborates with exceptional craftspeople creating limited-edition and one-off pieces across a range of media. His studio has produced furniture, lighting, interiors, set designs, and photography. Still active in the financial world, he holds a number of advisory and board-level positions with organizations including Sotheby’s, Tate Modern, and the London Design Museum.
